The Flight Club (1931-1935) at William & Mary is believed to be the first such club at a college. The Flight Club won the Loening Trophy in inter-collegiate flying competition in 1933 and a second prize of $100 in 1934. As of 1978, the Loening Trophy with William & Mary inscribed on it was at the National Space Museum. William & Mary was one of the few colleges with a Department of Aeronautics.

A note about the contents of this site

This website contains the best available information from known sources at the time it was written. Unfortunately, many of the early original records of William & Mary were destroyed by fires, military occupation, and the normal effects of time. The information in this website is not complete, and it changes as we continue to research and uncover new sources.
