Jack B. Martin was a professor in the Department of English (though his teaching and research were in the Linguistics Program) at William & Mary from 1993 - 2011, and was chair of the English department from 2006 - 2010. He received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA. Prior to teaching at William & Mary, he held positions at the University of North Texas, the University of Michigan and Rice University.

His scholarly interests are focused on the Muskogean Languages, and particularly on documentation and revitalization of endangered languages.
