Formerly known as Murray Scholars or College Scholars, the 1693 Scholars are a small cohort of students, chosen through a rigorous selection process. These students, numbering fewer than ten per class, receive a research stipend, scholarship funding, and live together in the Murray House. The average 1693 Scholar ranked in the top 1% of their high school class and scored above 1500 on the math and verbal sections of the SAT. On campus, their research and academic pursuits provide unique opportunities to marry their personal aspirations with the mission and vision of William & Mary.

Murray House, located at 101 Chandler Court, celebrated its opening in 2013. 2024 marked the 20th anniversary of the program, initiating its 100th scholar into the selective community.

A note about the contents of this site

This website contains the best available information from known sources at the time it was written. Unfortunately, many of the early original records of William & Mary were destroyed by fires, military occupation, and the normal effects of time. The information in this website is not complete, and it changes as we continue to research and uncover new sources.
