The SCRC Knowledgebase is the home for quick facts and answers to frequently asked questions about William & Mary history, local history, and other popular research topics. Articles are based on materials in the William & Mary Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center, and are updated frequently.

Much of the information on this site was found in the University Archives within Special Collections. The Colonial Echo yearbook and student newspaper, The Flat Hat, are two of the most commonly consulted resources.

A note about the contents of this site

This website contains the best available information from known sources at the time it was written. Unfortunately, many of the early original records of William & Mary were destroyed by fires, military occupation, and the normal effects of time. The information in this website is not complete, and it changes as we continue to research and uncover new sources.
