Richard Terrick served as Chancellor from 1764 to 1776, contributing to a stability in Chancellorship that had been mired by quick turnover in the preceding decade. Terrick held a position as Bishop of London while Chancellor and previously was the Bishop of Peterborough and Chaplain to Speaker of the House of Commons.
Terrick significantly impacted the relationship between the Board of Visitors and faculty during his term. While there was much contention between these two bodies, Terrick consistently sided with the faculty, supporting their contributions to the College.
